Pru Blackwell - MY FUTURE STARTS HERE

LEARNING MATHEMATICS IN CONTEXT

These learners are studying for a qualification in Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment. As part of the course, they have to develop skills in the practical application of mathematics. Here, the learners are applying Pythagoras, using the “3-4-5 method”, to ensure the walls of a building are at right angles. This video is taken from the ‘Maths Pipeline project’.

ABSTRACT IDEAS IN SCIENCE

This video is an extract from the DVD, ‘Looking at learning in science’. It focuses on the challenges learners face in understanding scientific phenomena. The teachers and learners featured were involved in the ‘National teaching and learning change programme’.

UNDERSTANDING TRANSFORMATIONS

The video is taken from the ‘Maths Pipeline project’. It features adult learners and their teacher participating in a lesson on transformations. This is one of a series of videos observing the teaching of mathematics in both classroom and vocational settings.

LEARNING FUTURES EVENT

Learning Futures sets out to develop the capability and capacity of the education and training workforce to use learning technologies effectively in order to improve outcomes for learners and employers. Part of this programme is called Action Research and is a process of enquiry. It involves practitioners framing their own questions in order to study aspects of their own professional practice.
